“I left Tucson seven years ago because I was pretty much killing myself here and didn’t feel like I belonged.

But I could never really sever ties with this town where I spent over two decades.”

Happy in Tucson

I couldn't be anywhere else.

Fullscreen
“I feel at peace. I’ve made peace with being here. Or made peace with being here at this present time.

Tucson has a million people in the greater area but there’s a lot of space. We’re not strictly confined, like in France where you have to fill in paperwork just to get the baguettes.

Here, there is space in the supermarkets. I can use a bicycle to go into the desert. Nature is right at hand.

I don’t even have to talk to my neighbours. I don’t see them because they’re so far.

So It’s pretty luxurious. It’s the best circumstances. I couldn’t be anywhere else at this point.”

Are you feeling less or more connected?

“More. More connected with less struggle.

The big thing that happened this month is I put out a political song. I don’t do political but this one was an angry, urgent response to the current situation.

And that song found an echo in people. So yes, I feel connected because I’ve given something of myself.”
